Tennessee man arrested for sending ‘graphic’ text messages to Limestone County child

Limestone County authorities have charged a Tennessee man with trying to lure a child for sex using text messages.

Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin said Daniel Lee Hargrove, 40, has been charged with electronic solicitation of a child. He is being held in the Limestone County Jail without bond.

According to the sheriff’s office, a child in Limestone County began receiving text messages on Nov. 15 from an unknown number saying the sender “had a crush on the child.”

The child told the sender they had the wrong number and stopped communication. The messages continued, however, using different numbers, and by the weekend of Dec. 1 to 4, became “graphic and disturbing.”

The child went to a school counselor for help and sheriff’s investigators began to look into the case. The messages continued, seeking “to solicit, coerce, and lure the child sexually,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Hargrove, who was previously a Limestone County resident before moving to Georgetown, Tenn., was developed as a suspect.

Consulting with the Bradley County (Tenn.) Sheriff’s Office, Hargrove was arrested in Tennessee and extradited to Limestone County on Wednesday. The sheriff’s office says Hargrove confessed to the offense during an interview.

McLaughlin said he was proud of the work done by investigators, and the child for seeking help.

“I want to remind each parent to actively monitor the content of their children’s devices to ensure a predator isn’t contacting or grooming them,” McLaughlin said.
